Hmmm, long time no post

Which is largely because I have no time, these days. However, I just noticed that I actually got a banner for winning the DoctorWho20in20 Artists Choice all that time ago, which is rather nice. Anyway, I was updating my profile, so I thought I might as well post it, too.

I look forward to my teaching contract being up and having time for a life again... although I'm also really, really hoping I'll have found some other sort of job...

Not having Teh Intarwebs at home has made me more productive in some parts of my life, but not in icon and computer graphics. Plus, when I make something, it then becomes more irritating to get the product of my efforts to somewhere I can upload it. But still, it doesn't stop me entirely, and I decided that it's finally getting towards the time of year when I can start using my new Christmas icon, so...

And can I just say: how beautiful was Tegan, actually? I never noticed whilst watching the show - I just get bowled over by the character being so loud and not terribly bright - but srsly, I noticed this whilst iconing Black Orchid, too: half the screencaps I have of her look like they were painted - the lighting just hits her so perfectly. She even looks beautiful in that ghastly soldier uniform they get her in in Earthshock. She may not have been the world's most brilliant actor, but she certainly packed enough character in to stop me from noticing that... which is kinda cool, actually.

The produce of my labours:

It's not without it's problems, but there comes a point when you just have to stop. I'm quite pleased with Ten's hair. Five isn't as good, but the source material just isn't as plentiful. He never gets more than a chaste peck on teh cheek from Nyssa, alas, and even the non-kissing pictures tend not to be of as high quality. Still, considering this is the first time I've tried to draw anyone kissing in my adult life, I don't think it went too badly...

This is actually proving quite useful to me. It's helpful to have the two images side by side like that on the screen whilst I'm drawng. It makes it easier to see where I've gone wrong, and what I'll need to correct. Anyway:

I'd just like to say that David Tennant has a weird head, and he really is freakily skinny, and it does weird things to his skin and bones. Not saying he ain't pretty, 'cause he is, but I wish to feed him ice-cream and chips.

Hmmm, Ten's head definitely still needs work - it needs to be more squished, 'cause it's at a funny angle. Don't really want to do too much more to the hair, if I don't have to, as that would be a right bugger to redo, so I think I'll just make everything else to scale with that...

In which a request is permission in disguise. Because it's for someone else, I'm not wasting time if I'm doing this. I'm talking about, of course, my art exchange project for 500year_diary, the Doctor Who Art community.

My assignment read: "I'm into 4,5,9,10. Currently in a 5 phase... especially if there are other men involved... like Turlough. Also a fan of 10/Master and partial to Jack/Ianto. And Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart."

I then queried and had verified that they didn't mind Doctor/Doctor slash (apart from anything else, I'm not convinced I could do a good Turlough - Turlough has a weird face, not a bad face, but unusual, and therefore more difficult to draw). Having confirmed that they would welcome some timeslashing action, I found I really wanted to get going.

Only the first preliminary sketch, of course, mostly to indicate places where shading is goona happen, so parts of it may look a bit odd (for example, on Ten's cheek), from that point of view, but I'm feeling good from the overall point of view:

Had to use a mixture of source pictures for Five (sadly, he never does anything more racy than receive a peck on the cheek from Nyssa, once), but this is the source for Ten:

Probably not of interest to anyone, really, but I'm having fun, and I know some people tend to be interested in seeing the steps along the way to something becoming a picture.

The joke in the 'She's an air hostess too' icon is probably only funny to a very small number of people (probably just me) but it relates to an icon of Liz Shaw's legs that is captioned 'She's a Scientist too'. I like that icon very much, and Liz is one of my favourite companions... but so is Tegan, and their striking differences as characters amuse and please me.

Obviously keep clicking until you get the actual size. This is from Arc of Infinity, where I have to say I think PD was looking particularly fine. I loved this screencap, but thought it would look better in blue *shrugs*. The size is 1280x1024 - i.e. to fit my screen, as I made it initially for me.
